Memory is one of my kiddos' favorite games. My youngest was playing memory since he was about three. It's safe to say that he has mastered this simple game...I don't even want to play against him! What would give this game an upgrade? A Superhero boost. Oh yeah.
This is what you will need:
-Superhero Memory Game Printables
(Click here for printable 1) (Click here for printable 2)
-Printing Source ( Kinkos, Office Max, home printer)
-Heavy duty scissors
-Really good glue (Mod Podge)
-Sponge or Paint brush
-Recycled cereal boxes
-Scrapbook paper of your choice (the size of a regular sheet of paper: 8.5x11)
-Heavy books or flat objects
-Rolling pin or a can for smoothing
Step 1: Print out Superhero Memory Game Printables. It's best to print on card stock to improve the thickness of your memory game cards.
Step 2: Break down your cereal box into two flat panels.
Step 3: Paste one memory game printable to one side of your recycled cereal box. Do not over saturate with glue,(or the cardboard will start to bow) but make sure the surface is evenly coated all the way to the ends. If you are using a liquid glue, I would suggest using a sponge or paint brush to spread it evenly. You can also use a rolling pin or a heavy can to assist in making a flat, adhesive surface and to smooth out the wrinkles if necessary. Once you are satisfied, place printable under a heavy flat book or object to set. Repeat with the second printable.
Step 4: Once dry, trim the outer access, turn your printable over, and evenly paste your scrapbook paper to the other side. Smooth it out well. No excess glue should be hanging off of the sides (you don't want your project sticking to your heavy object!). Once you are satisfied, place under a heavy flat object to dry completely. Check on your printables periodically. You may have to smooth them out a time or two to make sure wrinkles are not forming. No worries though...when it is dry it will be awesome!
Step 5: You should now have two stiff memory card panels. Coat both sides with a layer of Mod Podge. Don't place under a heavy object! Once completely dry, cut out your Superhero Memory Cards. If you want, you can add another layer of Mod Podge for extra durability. Make sure you get the edges and corners!
Step 6: You're done! It's now time to play! Have fun watching or playing with your kiddos. Come up with new and creative ways to play this game. As always, send pics of your superheroes at play... we want to praise n 'post them saving the day!
(yeah, that was a terrible rhyme attempt...I couldn't come up with anything else...)
